Putrescent Scorns is a crawl through a decaying, vengeful world bloated with irradiated air and the presence of ancient creatures returning to what was once theirs. The slow elimination of humans haunts lonely Midwestern woods, cities built too high, and the walls of privileged homes that have been frozen in a perpetual winter. In eleven grotesque tales, follow the decline of humanity clinging to survival, the spread of rot and decomposition at attempts of reconstruction, and the horrifying beauty of nature reclaiming itself.

In “Hunting Journal No. 189”, two starving travelers find work that takes them to a hunting blind, where they find adoration in one another and foolishly indulge in acts of greed that they will soon be punished for. A scientist attempts to reach the end of a road unknown in length in “The Path Out of Boghollow”, a road that can be entered, but swallows those who attempt to leave it whole. A man attempts to climb to the top a labyrinthine tower, whose blueprint is unknown to even its engineers, with hopes that the journey’s peak will reveal a new utopian society in “Precipice”.

Foully uncanny and bloody over its monochrome filter, Putrescent Scorns is a collection that dissects its inhabitants and spirals down into the cold depths of how a society dies in a world it does not care for.
